ELLEPHANT PRESENTS βASCENSIONβ
From June 30 to July 29, 2023
MontrΓ©al, June 28, 2023 β ELLEPHANT presents Ascension, the very first solo exhibition byΒ multi-disciplinary artist Rebecca Foon, featuring a series of sublime photographs captured in nature’s most peaceful and inspiring oases.
During the entire month of July at ELLEPHANT, Rebecca Foon presents nine photographs of protected regions from around the world in circular and rectangular lightboxes. The opening will take place on Thursday, June 29, during a cocktail with the artist, to the spellbinding sound of music she composed herself.
βAscension is the idea of uplifting the human consciousness through devotion to nature and the protection of it. The exhibit allows viewers to lose themselves for a moment within the soothing lightbox portals supported by the sound of string and piano themed melodies, within the confines of the architectural space of the gallery.β β Rebecca Foon
About Rebecca Foon
In 2020, as a natural extension of her artistic and musical practices with climate activism, Foon began making large scale lightboxes highlighting untouched regions of the world.
In 2014, Foon co-founded with Jesse Paris Smith, Pathway to Paris, a non-profit devoted to expanding awareness and action around the Paris Agreement. Pathway To Paris launched the 1000 Cities Initiative for Carbon Freedom at the United Nations Secretariat in 2017, supporting cities to transition off of fossil fuels by 2040. In celebration of Earth Day 2021, in collaboration with Pathway to Paris and Circa Art, Rebecca Foon and Jesse Paris Smith designed an art installation at Piccadilly Square in London, England highlighting their collaboration with Olafur Eliasson and Little Sun. The intention of the exhibit was to infuse a sense of hope and wonder for our planet and its trajectory on Earth Day.
