Montserrat Duran Muntadas

Montserrat Duran Muntadas is an artist born in Catalonia and based in Montreal, Canada.

Trained at the Centro Nacional del Vidrio at the Real Fábrica de Cristales de La Granja (Spain), where she graduated with distinction in 2007, she completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the University of Barcelona in 2010. Her practice sits at the intersection of glass, sculpture, and installation, rooted in a conceptual art approach.

Since settling in Canada in 2012, she has presented her work in over 50 group exhibitions at the national and international level, as well as in a dozen solo exhibitions. Her work has been recognized with several awards, including the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery Award for Glass (2017), the Prix Jean-Cartier de la relève (2017), and the Prix François-Houdé (2019), in addition to numerous grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts.

In 2019, she completed her first public artwork for a Montreal elementary school, followed in 2020 by a second work for the Musée Armand-Frappier in Laval.

She has undertaken artistic residencies at North Lands Creative Glass (Scotland) and the Pilchuck Glass School (United States), and is currently developing new research in ceramics through residencies at the Centre d'art Rozynski (Quebec).

She is currently a member of the faculty at the glass school Espace Verre in Montreal.

Her work has been featured in numerous specialized publications, including La revue de la Céramique et du Verre, Neues Glas, and New Glass Review, as well as in various art journals such as Vie des arts and ESSE. In 2021, a first bilingual monograph devoted to her work was published by independent curator and writer Pascale Beaudet.

Her works are held in public and institutional collections, including those of the City of Montreal, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Musée des métiers d'art du Québec, and the Museo de Arte en Vidrio de Alcorcón (Spain).
