ELLEPHANT is seeking a bilingual Sales Associate to join our team in Montréal.
This is a client-facing sales position for someone who is enthusiastic about contemporary art, enjoys meeting people, and is motivated to develop new collectors and generate sales.
The associate will welcome gallery visitors, introduce them to ELLEPHANT’s artists and exhibitions, identify prospective collectors, follow up on sales leads, and help grow the gallery’s collector base.
Responsibilities
1. Welcome and engage gallery visitors in a warm, knowledgeable and professional manner.
2. Learn about ELLEPHANT’s artists, exhibitions and available works and discuss them confidently with clients.
3. Identify potential buyers and develop sales opportunities.
4. Present artworks, prices, editions and artist information to clients.
5. Follow up with visitors and prospective collectors by email and telephone.
6. Send images, price lists, PDFs and other information to interested clients.
7. Develop relationships with new collectors and maintain relationships with existing clients.
8. Keep organized records of sales inquiries, contacts and follow-ups.
9. Assist with sales from initial inquiry through framing, delivery and follow-up.
10. Participate in exhibition openings, special events and other gallery activities.
11. Provide general gallery support during quieter periods.
Qualifications
1. Excellent spoken and written French and English.
2. Experience in sales, client relations, business development, galleries, auction houses, art advising, design, fundraising or another relationship-based field.
3. Knowledge of and genuine interest in contemporary art.
4. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
5. Confidence discussing prices and asking for a sale.
6. Self-motivated, organized, reliable and comfortable working independently.
7. Knowledge of Montréal’s contemporary art and cultural community is an asset.
8. A background in art history, fine arts, curatorial studies or a related field is an asset, but strong sales skills are equally important.
9. Knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and art management databases is an asset.
Compensation
Hourly wage + commissionCommission details will be provided during the interview.

Founded in Montréal in 2015, ELLEPHANT is a contemporary art gallery in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles. The gallery presents exhibitions, public programs and publications and represents artists working across a range of contemporary practices.
ELLEPHANT works closely with its artists to develop opportunities through exhibitions, institutional partnerships, biennials and international art fairs.
